The Pink Café was made for Instagram. Cheery fuchsia-colored bougainvillea greets diners at the front door. Inside, the two main walls feature greenery and elements that make them a perfect backdrop for that all-important selfie. The wall along the back entrance is pink and sports a mural of a smiling blonde woman lost in a pleasant dream or flirty thought.
Open just six months, the cozy café, nestled in Atlantic Village in Hallandale along Federal Hwy. is just a few minutes north of Aventura – there’s also a location in Miami Beach – and it takes its name very seriously in the most whimsical way. A trellis with cascading pink-and-white silk flowers hangs from the ceiling. Industrial-style seating is interspersed with pink tables and comfy pink club chairs. The front counter is filled with all kinds of pastel-colored merch – water bottles covered in unicorns and rainbows, balloons, Hello Kitty doo-dads, candy jars, giant lollipops, and a display of pink cowboy hats trimmed in pink feathers.
It's a great, big, girly, pink fantasyland, and oh-so Insta-worthy.
Doing pre-lunch recon for The Pink Café can be a little frustrating. Their website is pretty but sparse, just the basics about their locations. Some googling finally yielded half of the menu, posted by a diner to get an idea of their options and prices point. The Pink Café serves breakfast and lunch, a variety of sandwiches, salads, burritos, benedicts, waffles, French toast, entrees, and smoothies. They also have muffins, cookies, donuts, and breads baked in-house. Prices range from $12 to $30; the highest priced options are the steak dishes.
There are a few quirks at The Pink Café. For example, only Fiji bottled water is served at the table. Ask for tap water and you’ll be directed to the front counter to a self-serve decanter.
The Croissant Baby, ($20.99) a yummy combo of two four-ounce burger patties, American cheese, and bacon on a plump croissant, is served with a “pink sauce,” although the pink sauce looked and tasted more like Thousand Island.
Also, while the Chicken Club Sandwich ($17.99) is a delicious, refreshing mix of chicken breast, mozzarella, arugula, tomato, and basil pesto aioli, it’s served on a baguette, disqualifying it from the club sandwich club.
Even after a delightful meal, it’s tough to resist the tempting over-sized muffins, decadent cookies, fudgey brownies, and fanciful doughnuts displayed at the front counter. You can take it on good authority that the inch-thick chocolate chip cookie with the generous well of Nutella in the middle is simply divine.
The Pink Café is the perfect spot for your next get-together with the girls, ladies lunch, brunch, or to spend time with the tween in your life, The creative menu items are tasty, the service is prompt, and its fanciful design and décor makes it a lovely place to escape the world for a while. Just make sure your phone is fully charged for all those selfies.
