Summer in Miami is … interesting. It’s fry-an-egg-on-the-sidewalk hot or drenched in rain, while the possibility of a hurricane always looms in the background. The daily pace slows down and it’s quieter, because the snowbirds have flown north, but the rest of us who live here year-round still need something to do.
The South Florida arts season was primarily designed for tourists and part-time residents. It starts around October when visitors flock to our shores to beat the northern winters and ends when our weather heats up and other climes are cooler. Most arts organizations spend the summer planning for the next season of programming a couple of months off.
Lucky for arts lovers, there’s still lots to do. Whether it’s cooling off at the theater and taking in a musical, wandering through a museum to view their latest exhibitions, or spending a balmy evening under the stars enjoying a concert, there’s a variety of events to help beat the summertime blues.
New events are added all the time, but the list below is a starting point for your summer entertainment. Please always check venue and company websites to ensure correct info.
