Picture the largest ball pit you’ve ever let your children play in, now multiply that by a hundred! That’s what visitors will get to experience at the Balloon Museum’s “Let’s Fly” exhibit, now through Oct. 6 at the Mana Wynwood Convention Center.
But then there’s more. The exhibit will feature 20 inflatable, interactive works of art for visitors to admire, or just play with.
The Balloon Museum started combining art and inflatables in 2020 in Rome and its exhibits have gone on display in Paris, Milan, Madrid, London, New York and Atlanta. They’ve been experienced by more than 4.4 million visitors. This will be the exhibit’s first visit to Miami.
Like the ball pit, all of the exhibits invite visitors to be active participants in the art. They also incorporate light and music to further draw in observers.
ADA is an inflatable sphere spiked with graphite markers. Visitors push the sphere and make their own abstract works of art when the graphite meets the walls … and other visitors. You, and your kids, might get a little messy (Soap and paper towels are provided).
SWING is a room of pendulous, oversized balls supported by netting that lets visitors push and pull. Later, visitors are challenged by an inflatable maze which calls to mind a more colorful, more artistic corn maze.
Visitors can take their frustrations or affection out on the GINJO, oversized inflatable wobbling inflatables visitors can kick or hit, or just hug. Either way, they always come back for more.
Spiritus Sonata introduces us to creatures that also function as wind instruments, as the air that inflates them escape through their noses.
And who can resist a room full of bubbles?
The exhibit also features a virtual reality experience, and of course it ends with a gift shop.
One YouTuber cautions guests against carrying keys or a cell phone through the ball pit, because if they get lost, it could take months for them to be found.
