It's Been a Privilege

by

The virus crisis has turned our world upside down, and as we recently noted in these pages, there’s no going back to life as we knew it just a few short months ago.

Befitting this moment of great change, Biscayne Times is undergoing its own transformation. After 13 years and nine months as this publication’s publisher and editor, I am handing off the enterprise to Garth Reeves III, whose family has owned and operated the weekly Miami Times for 97 years, serving the area’s Black communities with distinction.

In a time of adversity, Garth sees opportunity. I agree. The future is full of promise for Biscayne Times, its readers and the advertising partners who make it all possible.

Chronicling the Biscayne Corridor’s dramatic growth has been a heady experience, just as it has been a privilege to work with so many talented writers, editors, photographers, designers and business associates. Among them are Francisco Alvarado, Geoffrey Anderson, Dianne Rubin-Anderson, Priscilla Arias, Mandy Baca, Victor Barrenechea, David Bennett, Jay Beskin, Erik Bojnansky, Pamela Robin Brandt, Crystal Brewe, Terence Cantarella, Christian Cipriani, Bill Citara, Jacqueline Coleman, Armando Colls, Bill Cooke, Kenneth Cooper, Melissa Cueto, John Dorschner, Wendy Doscher-Smith, Christopher Fernandez, Paul George, Kathy Glasgow, Gaspar González, Janet Goodman, Shane Graber, Caitlin Granfield, Margaret Griffis, Marsha Halper, Jim W. Harper, Lisa Hartman, Helen Hill, John Ise, Ken Jett, Fred Jonas, Jen Karetnick, Jack King, Corey Kingsbury, Nina Korman, Nancy Lee, Pedro Lozano, Jason Maxwell, Derek Michael McCann, Andrew McLees, Coman Leonard, Dinah McNichols, Eleazar David Meléndez, Blanca Mesa, Marcy Mock, Sal Monterosso, Nancy Newhart, Kim Ogren, Danny Plana, Jenni Person, Frank Rollason, Silvia Ros, Shari Lynn Rothstein-Kramer, Marc Ruehle, Adam Schachner, Mark Sell, Stuart Sheldon, Jeff Shimonski, Jim Teeple, Anne Tschida, Elisa Turner, Margaret Tynan, David Villano and Melissa Wallen.

Most of all, it is you, our engaged and loyal readers, who have made Biscayne Times what it is today. We have you to thank for whatever success we’ve enjoyed. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to get to know you and to serve your interests.

With gratitude and warm regards,

Jim Mullin
