Sustainability Code Approved in North Bay Village
Look For Solar Panels and Green Rooves
North Bay Village wants people to know it is working toward its goal of becoming a local leader in sustainability and resilience. The Village Commission recently passed a new green building code that strengthens its future environment by advancing mitigation and adaptation measures in light of climate change. The new ordinance incentivizes elements such as:
- Green roofs
- Electric vehicle charging stations
- Solar panels in new construction
“This ordinance represents an exciting next step in the Village's journey toward becoming a more resilient three-island paradise,” said North Bay Village Commissioner Rachel Streitfeld.
It immediately affects all new development and re-development in North Bay Village, such as any new multi-family, residential, hotel, and mixed-use projects.
The new building code came about as a result of collaboration between the Village Sustainability & Resilience Task Force, its Zoning Advisory Board, the Village Planner and advice from industry experts.
North Bay Village is a three-island municipality in Miami-Dade County. Incorporated in 1945, the Village has roughly 4.75 miles of private and public property along the water.
“We look forward to sustainable urban development that reflects our home in the middle of Biscayne Bay. This new ordinance delivers a standard of environmentally-conscious design while maintaining the utmost flexibility for property owners,” said Streitfeld.
