Shake-up in North Miami With Resolution to Fire Manager Rasha Cameau

North Miami city manager Rasha Cameau is on the chopping block.

Cameau could lose her job next month following Councilperson Kassandra Timothe’s proposed motion during an April 9 council meeting to terminate her. Jeff Cazeau, city attorney, said the council must return May 14 to vote on the resolution, which must include a list of reasons for the termination since none have been provided so far.

Vice Mayor Mary Estime-Irvin and Councilperson Pierre Frantz Charles joined Timothe last week in supporting the motion to terminate, while Mayor Alix Desulme and Councilperson Scott Galvin voted against it.

“This is a sad day for the city of North Miami,” said Desulme that evening.

“Rasha Cameau is a fantastic manager who has worked very hard and has the respect of the city employees,” said Galvin. “I hope the council reconsiders its decision before the next meeting.”

What led to this split on the commission over Cameau’s employ is anyone’s guess.

The FIU College of Business graduate has served as North Miami’s city manager since March of last year. According to her LinkedIn profile, Cameau previously worked for Miami-Dade County as an assistant director for just over a year, after working for two years as the executive director of the North Miami Community Redevelopment Agency. Her employment history also includes a stint as facility manager for the Little Haiti Cultural Center and nearly five years as a city of Miami NET office administrator.
